Next Meeting Monday 11/23

A handful of members participated in the return meeting on 11/2, so feel free to bring any interested future members to our next meeting on 11/23.

Paper recycling programs were the hot topic for discussion, and the committee agreed to prepare for a pilot and delve deeper for understanding. With that said, we agreed to have an expert from Metro Waste Paper answer any questions or address concerns as we move to implement a pilot for paper recycling throughout the district.

Faculty, support staff, interested students, and administration are encouraged to attend!!!
Please post any Q's or specific information requests prior to the 11/23 meeting so that we can be as prepared as possible and use our time efficiently.

Mark the date: Monday November 23, 2009
Time: 6 pm
Location: Quest School Board Room

There will be a sign posted directing you to the meeting room.

  1. Questions for Chris Kelly (Metro Waste Paper):

    How does the program work?

What types of items qualify (paper, newsprint, magazines, cardboard, etc.)?

How much does the program cost?

What is the breakeven point for the District and how much money could the District net with this program?

What other school districts use this type of program?

I'm sure I'll have more questions during the presentation but this is a start. I encourage others to post questions.

  2. Things on my mind...

Can the district investigate the option to recycle milk cartons as paper fiber?

Might hands-on, student-centered education about recycling via grade-level trips to the recycling center and landfills heighten awareness and practice? Seeing is believing...

Will classrooms receive larger recycle bins? Can these be emptied more frequently?

How might we encourage/reward/promote staff and students to reduce paper waste- ie- avoiding single sided copies, reusing paper that is one-sided in classroom and office printers, increasing laminating expenses for items that could be reused vs. tossed when worn, limit printing to essentials?
